About Dale Ellis
Dale Ellis is a retired NBA shooting guard who played 17 seasons in the league with six different teams. Prior to his time in the NBA, Ellis was a standout player at the University of Tennessee, where he was a two time All American and a two time SEC Player of the year. His number 14 was retired by Tennessee, making him just one of four players immortalized by the university in their long existence. Following his graduation, Ellis was drafted in the first round of the 1983 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks, and would spend three seasons with the team until being traded to the Seattle SuperSonics. His five seasons in Seattle were his best, as he would earn one All Star honor in 1989 and winning the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award in 1987. In 1991, Ellis was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, playing one season before being traded to the San Antonio Spurs. Ellis spent two seasons in San Antonio before signing with the Denver Nuggets in 1994. After stops with Seattle and Milwaukee, Ellis retired in 2000 as a member of the Charlotte Hornets, ending his successful 17-year career.
