Charlie Waters

Charlie Waters was a football player from South Carolina who accepted a scholarship to Clemson University for the Tiger’s football team. Waters entered Clemson as a quarterback, competing and winning the job in the start of his junior year. After a rocky start, Waters was replaced as QB and moved out to WR where he spent the rest of his college career. He graduated from Clemson with 1,196 yards on 17.1 yards per reception, leaving him at 8th all-time in the Clemson record books. The All-ACC selection was drafted in the 1970 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys where he spent 11 seasons as a defensive back. Waters originally struggles in his new defensive role, but by the end of his rookie season he had earned a starting spot and was named to the NFL All-Rookie team as the Cowboys went on to lose Super Bowl V. Waters moved around the defensive secondary until he solidified himself as the starting free safety in 1975 for the remainder of his career. Waters went on to be a 3x Pro-Bowl selection, appearing in 5 Super Bowls and winning 2 of them. He retired with a career postseason record of 9 interceptions, including another record 3 in one game.
