In 1990 he had his best season in the majors when he was the starting catcher with a .213 batting average, 8 home runs, and 31 runs batted in. Following his retirement in 1993 from the game, playing his final year with the San Diego Padres who originally drafted him, Bob first became the bench coach for the Oakland Athletics.
