About Brad Ausmus
Brad Ausmus played 18 seasons in the big leagues as a catcher with the San Diego Padres, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, and Los Angeles Dodgers from 1993 to 2010. During that time he earned an All-Star selection in 1999 and won three Gold Glove Awards in 2001, 2002 and 2006. Ausmus had a career year in 1999 when he finished with a .275 average, 9 homeruns, 6 triples, 25 doubles and 62 runs scored. Throughout the entirety of his career he was known as a brilliant defensive catcher and led all NL catchers in putouts in 1994. He was also known for his smarts on the field, his leadership in the clubhouse and his game management skills. After retiring from the game in 2010 he was hired as the special assistant to baseball operations with the San Diego Padres and served in that role until being hired as the manager of the Detroit Tigers in 2013. During his first year at the helm he led the Tigers to a 90-72 regular season record and an American League Central division title. Overall, Ausmus managed the Tigers for four seasons before joining the a href=/team/los-angeles-angels>Los Angeles Angels for one year in 2019.
