Bill Wennington

Bill Wennington was a vital part of perhaps the greatest spectacle to ever grace an NBA court, the 1990s Chicago Bulls. Wennington won three NBA titles with the Michael Jordan-led Bulls. He was a key reserve at center for six seasons in Chicago and started 20 games for the record-setting 72-win Bulls in 1995-96. The hype around the team became so huge that Chicago-area McDonald’s restaurants sold the Beef Wennington sandwich in 1998. Wennington was originally the 16th overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks. He would spend his initial five seasons with the Mavs and also spent time as a pro playing for the Sacramento Kings and in Italy. Wennington played collegiately under Lou Carnesecca at St. John’s and made it to the Final Four. While there is an influx of Canadian NBA stars now, the Montreal native was an early pioneer in that regard. Wennington has been inducted into both the Quebec and Canadian Basketball Halls of Fame. He still remains an important part of the Bulls organization as the team’s radio analyst.
