About Andy Newell
Andrew Newell is an American who has been competing in cross-country skiing since 2001. For a country not known for much cross-country skiing success, Newell has been a standout. He competed at the 2006, 2010, and 2014 Winter Olympics. His best individual World Championships finish fifth in 2007 and he won the U.S. title in 2008. In 2006, Newell won a bronze at a World Cup sprint race, which was the first time an American had been on the podium in 23 years. He is an amateur cinematographer and has his own film company. Newell founded the organization Athletes For Action in 2013 that uses athletes to bring awareness to climate change. He has also been active with Protect Our Winters, an environmental organization. Newell is from Bennington, Vermont.
