Team Owner Rick Hendrick Gets NASCAR Hall of Fame Call

For iconic racing team owner Rick Hendrick, his wait for the NASCAR Hall of Fame has been well worth it.  This week, he officially received word that he would be apart of the 2017 class.

Hendrick will be officially inducted in January along with four others.  He was selected by a panel of 53 voters and one fan combined vote.

Hendrick was named on 62 percent of the ballots, second-highest total of those chosen in the class.  Others joining him in the Hall include driver Mark Martin and fellow team owner Richard Childress.

The 242 wins Hendrick has comipiled as owner of Hendrick Motorsports rank second in NASCAR history.  He has seen his drivers capture a record 11 Sprint Cup championships since founding the team in 1984.

Hendrick's 14 NASCAR national series owner championships are also a record.  Currently, he has four drivers competing in Sprint Cup, including Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson.

Johnson won a record five consecutive championships from 2006-2010.  Hendrick has worked with other greats as well, including Hall of Famers Terry Labonte, Benny Parsons and Darrell Waltrip.
