Seven-Time All-Star Al Oliver Speaks at Reading Hot Stovers Banquet Next Month

One of baseball's greats is speaking at the Reading Hot Stovers Annual Banquet next month. Seven-time MLB All-Star Al Oliver will be in attendance at the Pennsylvania-based event on January 19th. 

The banquet is being held at the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton. A cocktail hour kicks off the festiviites at 5:30 p.m. and that will be followed by auctions and the main program. 

Tickets are $60.00 and various awards as well as scholarships for student-athletes will be handed out. In addition to Oliver, another baseball luminary, Bill Buckner will also speak.

Oliver had an 18-year major league career, hit .303 and collected over 2,700 hits. He spent the first decade with the Pittsburgh Pirates and played for five division champions. 

In 1971, Oliver was the everyday centerfielder for the Pirates team that won the World Series. After leaving Pittsburgh, he won three Silver Slugger Awards during tenures with the Texas Rangers and Montreal Expos. 

During his first seasons in Montreal, Oliver led the National League with a .331 average and 109 RBI. He retired following the 1985 seasons and has written multiple books about his life and career.
