Retired Six-Time Gold Glove Catcher Jim Sundberg Speaks at Southeastern Oklahoma State

Tomorrow, former major league catcher Jim Sundberg will impart his years of life experience on a group assembled at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  Sundberg is the keynote speaker at the annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes banquet held at the ballroom on campus.

The Souteastern Oklahoma FCA chapter is made up of about 48 schools.  Money made from the banquet will go towards funding materials and events for the chapters.

Sundberg already hosts an annual FCA golf tournament in Dallas.  He has been actively involved in the organization since his playing days.

Over a 16-year career, Sundberg was one of the best catchers in baseball.  He was a three-time All-Star and six-time Gold Glove recipient.

Sundberg spent the first ten years of his career with the Texas Rangers and is a member of the team's Hall of Fame.  The franchise originally selected him in the first round of the secondary free agent draft.

In addition to his time with the Rangers, Sundberg had a standout two seasons with the Kansas City Royals, helping the club win the World Series in 1985.  He was renowned for managing a pitching staff as well, catching 130 shutouts in his career and Bert Blyleven's 1977 no-hitter.
