Pro Golfer Notah Begay Speaks at Economic Forum in New Mexico

Pro golfer Notah Begay holds the Albuquerque, New Mexico community dear to his heart. On December 14th, he spoke at an Economic Forum meeting in the city.

The theme of the event was how to channel the power of the state's American Indian population. Begay said that various companies are missing out due to their lack of engagement with tribes.

This year, Begay moved back to New Mexico and he is currently working on several Indian causes. He himself is one-half Navajo, one-quarter San Felipe and one-quarter Isleta.

Begay became the first full-blooded American Indian to play on the PGA Tour. He won four times in his first two seasons on the tour after graduating from Stanford University.

Begay's best finish in a major came in 2000 when he placed eighth at the PGA Championship. He is a well-known personality in the sport due to his close relationship with fellow Stanford graduate, Tiger Woods.

Begay has also been a popular television analyst with the Golf Channel. The Institute for International Sport has named him one of the Top 100 Sports Educators in the world.
