Pro Football Hall of Famer Harry Carson Speaks at Concussion Conference

As the country has become more educated about brain injuries in football, Harry Carson has been at the forefront of the discussion.  The legendary player’s own struggles with post-concussion syndrome have illuminated the dangers of playing a violent sport.

Carson leant his personal experience to the conversation on Friday as keynote speaker a conference put on by the Arizona State Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.  The event was titled “Safeguarding Brains: The Law, Science, and Ethics of the Concussive Injury Epidemic”.

Several other speakers also preceded Carson’s keynote at the United States District Courthouse in Phoenix.  Individuals from varying industries came out to hear the presentations.

Carson has been an activist for change regarding how concussions are treated.  He has estimated that he suffered 15 concussions during his playing career.

On the field, Carson was one of the all-time great New York Giants.  He made nine Pro Bowls and is a member of the team’s Ring of Honor.

Carson was a leading force on Bill Parcells' early Giants teams and won Super Bowl XXI with the franchise.  In 2006, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
