Olympic Gymnast Jonathan Horton Keynotes St. Joseph Youth Alliance Awards Banquet

Members of the St. Joseph Youth Alliance got an inspirational message on Thursday night. Former Olympic gymnast Jonathan Horton was the keynote speaker at their Superstars for Kids awards banquet.

The event was held at the Fulkerson Center at Missouri Western State University. Horton talked about how long it took him to be an Olympian and told the attendees to never give up.

There were eight volunteers recognized out of a group of 200 who were presented with presidential volunteer service awards. Members of the community and businesses were also honored.

Horton reached the high-point of his gymnastics career when he won a silver medal on the high bar and bronze medal in the team competition at the 2008 Olympics. He was named USA Gymnastics Men's Athlete of the Year.

Horton is also a two-time bronze medalist at the World Championships. He has won 17 medals at the U.S. National Championships and is a two-time U.S. all-around champion.

Horton competed in college at Oklahoma, where he became an 18-time All-American and became a six-time NCAA champion. He has gone on to compete in three seasons of the hit reality show, American Ninja Warrior.
