Maryland Selects Under Armour Founder Kevin Plank as Spring Commencement Speaker

There is certainly no shortage of ties between the University of Maryland and Under Armour Founder Kevin Plank.  Plank will share his passion for the school as their spring commencement speaker.

He will address the Class of 2016 on May 18th at the XFINITY Center.  Plank played football at UM and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

He also originally developed the concept for Under Armour after Maryland summer football practices.  There is no question that Plank will try to impart that entrepreneurial spirt upon the graduates when he speaks.

Plank founded Under Armour after graduation in 1996 and has seen it grow into a company that boasts annual revenues approaching $4 billion.  As CEO, he has ushered the apparel brand into the main stream.

Under Armour is now one of the top brands in sports and is endorsed by athletes like Stephen Curry and Jordan Spieth.  They expanded into the shoe business in 2006, a space that is now led by Curry's signature sneaker releases.

Plank is a significant financial contributor to Maryland and a longtime supporter of the university's Robert H. Smith School of Business and Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship.  He is active in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. communities and sits on the boards of many organizations in both cities.
