WWE Superstar John Cena Named Recipient of Muhammad Ali Legacy Award

WWE superstar John Cena has continued to make an impact outside the ring. He is receiving another recognition for his positive role in the community as this year's recipient of Sports Illustrated's Muhammad Ali Legacy Award. 

Cena will officially be given the award at the Sportsman of the Year Awards on December 11 in Los Angeles, California. It is given to an athlete who exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship, leadership and philanthropy. 

Many are familiar with the work Cena does with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He has granted almost 600 wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses. 

Cena is also a breast cancer awareness advocate and does work with the Susan G. Komen Foundation. His brother is a survivor of Stage 4 brain cancer. 

Other athletes who have been honored with the Ali Award include Bill Russell, Jim Brown, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jack Nicklaus, Magic Johnson and Colin Kaepernick. Each winner is selected by SI's editorial staff and Ali's widow, Lonnie Ali. 

Cena has garnered the platform to help others after having one of the greatest careers in WWE history. He has won 25 overall championships and a record-tying 16 world titles. 

Five times, Cena has been part of the headline event at WWE's largest event, Wrestlemania. He has been named Superstar of the Year three times at the Slammy Awards. 

Cena is also an accomplished actor. He has found success as an action hero in Hollywood and had a starring role in eight films.
