Inspirational Former New Orleans Saints Player Steve Gleason Keynotes New Orleans Bowl Luncheon Friday

Former New Orleans Saints Steve Gleason is a symbol of perseverace to the greater Louisiana region. He will get to share his message as the keynote speaker at the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl annual luncheon. 

The event will take place on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the New Orleans Marriott. It is the 16th annual luncheon and Gleason will get to speak to members of the Southern Miss and Louisiana-Lafayette football teams. 

Other events of bowl weekend include a Friday Night Concert with Gin Blossoms and Better Than Ezra. The game kicks off at 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. 

Gleason is well-known inside and outside of the NFL circles for his fight with ALS. This year, a documentary chronicling his life with the disease over five years was released. 

The Gleason Initiative Foundation is a non-profit that helps those with a neuromuscular disease and promotes reseach for a cure. Through the charity, Team Gleason inspires many to live a full life. 

After going undrafted out of Washington State in 2000, Gleason embarked on an eight-year career with the Saints. His seminal moment in New Orleans was blocking a punt in 2006 in a game that was the franchise's first back at home after Hurricane Katrina.
