Iconic Racing Star Mark Martin Elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame

This was a monumental week in the life of NASCAR great Mark Martin.  He received the call that he would be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame next January.

Martin was selected for the 2017 class by a panel of 53 voters and one combined fan vote.  His name was listed on 57 percent of the ballots, making him one of the top five vote getters.

Other luminaries in Martin's class include team owners Richard Childress and Rick Hendrick.  The NASCAR Hall of Fame was established just six years ago in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Martin was the picture of endurance over a 31-year racing career.  He won 40 Sprint Cup races and finished in second place in the year-end standings on five occasions.

In addition, Martin ranks second in Xfinity Series history with 49 victories. He holds records for International Race of Champions wins and champions as well.

Martin already has one prestigous post-career honor, having been inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.  He currently resides in Batesville, Arkansas and owns several car dealerships in the state.
