Former Number One NBA Draft Pick Kwame Brown Speaks at United Way Event in Georgia

This Friday, The United Way of Coastal Georgia will kick off a special event.  Their capital campaign begins with an 8:30 a.m. event at Georgia Theatre GTX at Glynn Place Mall.

Native son and former number one NBA Draft pick Kwame Brown will take part in the festivities.  He will serve as the event's guest speaker that also marks the beginning of the Day of Caring. 

Brown will discuss his involvement with the United Way chapter and the importance of giving back.  This year's fundraising goal stands at $1.2 million.

Brown is currently back in the news in NBA circles for attempting a comeback.  He last played for the Philadelphia 76ers in 2013. 

In 2001, Brown was the number one overall pick of the Washington Wizards.  He became the first high school player ever selected at the top of the NBA Draft. 

Brown spent his first four seasons with the Wizards and 12 years in the league overall.  He played over 13,000 minutes and averaged 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounder per game.
