Former NFL Offensive Lineman Shawn Harper Speaks at MLK Event in Indiana

While his time in the NFL was brief, Shawn Harper has done plenty of good in his post-football life. He will share some of his story next week when he speaks in Richmond, Indiana.

The city is hosting a week of events celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Harper will help kick things off on Monday at their annual breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Townsend Community Center.

The title of Harper's talk is "Dr. King's Dream...Game Time!" He will also speak at a luncheon that day and hold a presentation at Indiana University on Tuesday.

Harper faced various obstacles growing up, including being raised in poverty and suffering from four disabilities. Due to the difficult circumstances, he graduated last in his high school class, but had the desire to play college football.

North Iowa Community College gave Harper an initial opportunity and then he was able to transfer to IU. The Los Angeles Rams made him a fourth round pick in 1992 and he spent several years in the NFL.

Harper now serves as a top motivational speaker around the world. He is also CEO of American Services and Protection in Columbus, Ohio.
