Former Cy Young Winner R.A. Dickey Speaks at Lipscomb Baseball First Pitch Dinner Next Month

Nashville, Tennessee native and former Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey is helping a local baseball program next month. He will be the speaker at Lipscomb's First Pitch Dinner.

The dinner is being held on January 28th at 6 p.m. at Allen Arena. Admission is free, but donations are requested to benefit the Lipscomb baseball program.

Various sponsorship packages are available including a table for $1,000. There is also going to be a silent auction at the event.

The quintessential late bloomer, Dickey did not explode onto the scene until his tenth season in the major leagues, In 2012, he went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA and 230 strikeouts on the way to National League Cy Young Award honors.

For the last four seasons, Dickey has been a stalwart in the Toronto Blue Jays rotation. This offseason, he switched clubs, signing a free agent contract with the Atlanta Braves.

The Texas Rangers originally selected Dickey in the first round of the 1996 MLB Draft and he made his big league debut in 2001. He is known as one of the great knuckleball pitchers in the game today.
