Former College Football Coach Danny Ford Speaks at Spartanburg Touchdown Club

Many Clemson fans still remember the success of former Tigers football coach Danny Ford.  Ford is speaking in the state today at the Spartanburg Touchdown Club.

Ford is presenting at noon at Golden Corral.  The price to attend is $11 for members and $13 for non-members.

In addition to Ford's speech, the club will also be handing out awards to several local football players.  Each meeting, they award a offensive player, defensive player, "hawg", team and scholar-athlete of the week.

Ford's most significant coaching accomplishment is leading Clemson to their only national championship in 1981.  Overall, he spent 12 seasons running the Tigers program and went 96-29-4.

Before leaving for Arkansas in 1989, Ford won five Atlantic Coast Conference titles as well.  He also piloted the Razorbacks program for five years.

Ford was an All-Southeastern Conference player under Bear Bryant at Alabama before jumping into the coaching profession.  He spent time as an offensive line coach for the Tide and at Virginia Tech and Clemson before getting his opportunity to be a head coach.
