Former College Football Coach Bill Curry Keynotes United Way Event

Bill Curry is a name college football fans know throughout the state of Georgia. On Thursday, he helped the United Way of Central Georgia kick off their 2017 campaign. 

There were over 400 people in attendance at the Hawkins Arena on the campus of Mercer University. The chapter's fundraising goal this year is $5 million and their theme is "Be The One." 

Curry talked about unifying the football huddle can be. He emphasized how important the sport is in the current climate of the country. 

Curry most recently helped start the Georgia State program and coached the team for three seasons. He had been retired from coaching after heading the University of Kentucky program from 1990-96. 

Curry had great success during a three-year run at Alabama, finishing his last season 10-2 and winning the Southeastern Conference. He was also a two-time SEC Coach of the Year. 

Curry got his head coaching start at his alma mater Georgia Tech and he was named Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 1985. As a player, he won two Super Bowl championships with the Green Bay Packers.
