ESPN Broadcaster Chris Berman Speaks at Calgary Italian Sportsmen’s Dinner

While ESPN broadcaster Chris Berman is quintessentiallly an American institution, he is also quite popular north of the border.  This may, he was the keynote speaker and a guest of honor at the Calgary Italian Sportsman's Dinner.

The dinner was held at Notre Dame High School on May 12th.  Now in its 54th year, the event has raised over $1.6 million for various charities.

During the evening, three scholarships were also presented to student-athletes of Italian descent.  In addition to speaking, Berman also donated $5,000 to the local Red Cross chapter.

Berman is an ESPN lifer and one of the network's original employees.  He joined in October 1979 and began to craft his unique style that would help popularize the 24-hour sports network.

Throughout the years, Berman has been known for his coverage of pro football, both on the NFL Draft and Sunday NFL Countdown.  In 2010, the Pro Football Hall of Fame honored him with the Rozelle Television-Radio Award.

Berman is a six-time National Sportscaster of the Year.  Last year, he was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame and later this summer he will go into the National Sports Media Association Hall of Fame.
