Chris Doering

A native of Gainesville, FL, Chris Doering chose to stay close to home and attend the University of Florida where he walked on to Steve Spurrier’s Gators football team. Doering quickly went from walk-on player to record breaker in his Florida career. He earned a scholarship after redshirting his freshman year and quickly established himself into the starting lineup as a sophomore. Doering ended his career with 149 receptions for 2,107 yards with 31 receiving TDs (which is 1st in Florida and SEC all-time records). He helped lead the Gators to three straight SEC Championships (’93-’95) and by his senior season he was a captain and a First Team All-SEC selection. Doering was selected late in the 1996 NFL Draft and went on to spend 7 seasons in the NFL with 7 different teams. His most successful year came with the Washington Redskins in 2002 where he compiled 192 yards and 2 TDs in just 15 game appearances. He was picked as the 19th “Greatest Gator” in a list of the top 100 Gators from the first 100 years and in 2002 he was inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame.
