College Football Hall of Famer Don McPherson Speaks at Sexual Assault Awareness Month Event

While Don McPherson had a high-profile football career, he has perhaps made a greater impact fighting for causes he believes after he hung up his cleats. Allegheny College is inviting him on Thursday to talk about an issue he has been speaking out against for years.

McPherson's visit is part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month events on campus. His presentation will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Quigley Hall's Henderson Auditorium.

McPherson will discuss relationship violence and how to join the anti-sexual violence movement. His visit is co-sponsored by the Allegheny Athletics Department and the Title IX Office.

Not many athletes have turned in more impressive careers at Syracuse University than McPherson. He led the Orange to an undefeated season in 1987 and took home the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien awards.

McPherson was also runner-up for the Heisman Trophy and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008. He went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles and in the Canadian Football League for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Ottawa Rough Riders.

After football was over, McPherson became a top speaker, advocating for the prevention of sexual and domestic violence. He has worked at Northwestern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society and was the first executive director of Adelphi University's Sports Leadership Institute.
