College Football Hall of Famer Don McPherson Keynotes Coaching Boys Into Men Summit

College Football Hall of Famer Don McPherson has been outspoken about issues related to domestic violence for many years. He was sharing his message again on Wednesday as the keynote speaker at the Coaching Boys Into Men Summit.

The event was hosted in Latrobe, Pennsylvania at St. Vincent College and sponsored by the Pittsburgh Steelers, FISA Foundation and the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania. The focus of the event was respect for women.

There were nearly 100 high school coaches and administrators in attendance. Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert and coaching assistant Dan Rooney III also spoke.

McPherson had a banner college career at quarterback for Syracuse University. In 1987, he won the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Awards while finishing runner-up in Heisman Trophy voting.

McPherson was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles and spent two seasons with the team. He also played in the Canadian Football League with the Hamilton Tigers-Cats and Ottawa Rough Riders.

When McPherson retired from football, he became a member of the staff at Northwestern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society. He has also served as the executive director of Adelphi University's Sports Leadership Institute.
