Cincinnati Reds Hall of Famer Leo Cardenas Speaks at Benefit Luncheon Wednesday

One of the greatest players in Cincinnati Reds history is lending a helping hand to the team's hall of fame. Former shortstop Leo Cardenas is speaking Wednesday at the "Bobblehead Luncheon" to benefit the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame Crosley Field Remembered Project and the City Gospel Mission.

The event takes place at the City Gospel Mission from 12:30-2:30 p.m. The tie between the two makes sense since the mission is built on the site where Crosley Field once stood.

In addition to speaking, Cardenas will also take questions and tour the site with those in attendance. Individual tickets are $39 and include a signed bobblehead from the Reds legend.

After coming to the U.S. from Cuba, Cardenas spent the first nine years of his career in Cincinnati. He became one the best shortstops in baseball and was awarded a National League Gold Glove in 1965.

Cardenas also made four of his five All-Star teams while with the Reds. He led his league in fielding percentage three times and played for several winning teams in Cincinnati and with the Minnesota Twins.

Cardenas also spent time with the California Angles, Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers. He was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 1981.
