2012 NL Cy Young Award Winner R.A. Dickey Speaks at Chattanooga FCA Banquet

Tennessee native and former Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey recently spoke at a special in-state event. He was the special guest at the Chattanooga Fellowship of Christian Athletes banquet.

The event was held at the Colonade in Ringgold, Georgia. Dickey also spent time before the banquet talking with local athletes about his Christian faith.

He was also candid about overcoming being abused as a child. On a lighter note, Dickey shared stories from his career and talked extensively about being a knuckleball pitcher.

Dickey had a career renaissance when he began primarily throwing the knuckleball. In 2012, he went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA on the way to winning the National League Cy Young Award.

That season, Dickey also set a Mets franchise record with a 32.2 scoreless innings streak. He was also selected to the All-Star team and led the NL with 230 strikeouts.

Dickey went on to spend four seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays before pitching in 2017 with the Atlanta Braves. The Texas Rangers originally selected him in the first round of the 1996 MLB Draft.
