Professional Baseball Player Tony Gwynn Jr. Hosts Camps in California

Tony Gwynn Jr. is still chasing his baseball dreams, but also taking time out to train a new generation of players.  Last month, Gwynn Jr. hosted a baseball camp at Trinity Prep High School in Palm Desert, California.

The two-day camp was for 9-14 year olds and ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.  Former fellow San Diego State student-athlete Jeff Webb who now runs a local gym, 101 Athletics, brought in Gwynn Jr. for the camp.

Gwynn Jr. runs several camps under the Camp 19 banner.  The #19 represents his father and baseball legend, Tony Sr., who passed away from cancer at the age of 54 in June 2014.

Last season, Gwynn Jr. played in 89 games for the Triple A Syracuse Chiefs.  He has played in parts of eight big league seasons, most recently in 2014 with the Philadelphia Phillies.

There have certainly been flashes of brilliance as the highest level for Gwynn Jr.  In 2009, he hit .270 for the San Diego Padres and he stole over 20 bases with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2011.

Gwynn Jr. was originally selected in the second round of the 2003 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers after being an all-conference pick as a junior at SDSU.  He would make his major league debut three years later, playing in 32 games for the Brewers.
