About Greg Gard
After serving as Bo Ryan's longterm coaching lieutenant, Greg Gard had the unenviable task of replacing the college basketball legend. Gard successful piloted Wisconsin through a tough Big 10 in his debut season, going 15-8 overall and 12-6 in the conference after supplanting Ryan midway through the 2015-16 season. The Badgers finished in a tie for third in the Big 10 and secured a seven seed in the NCAA Tournament. They were able to defeat Pittsburgh and score an upset win over Xavier in the tournament before falling to Notre Dame in the Sweet Sixteen. Prior to assuming the head job with the Badgers, Gard was an assistant for Ryan for 23 years at UW, Milwaukee, and Wisconsin-Platteville. Before entering the college ranks, he was an assistant coach on the high school level in Wisconsin.
