About Zina Garrison
Zina Garrison was a renowned tennis player, equally successful in singles and doubles. Garrison won three mixed doubles Grand Slams, made two Australian Open finals in doubles, and went to the 1990 singles’ final at Wimbledon. She also was an American star of the 1988 Olympics, winning gold in doubles with Pam Shriver and bronze in singles. Garrison’s highest world rankings were fourth in singles and fifth in doubles. Following the death of her mother, she battled bulimia near the start of her career and persevered to become a successful pro. The Zina Garrison Tennis Academy is based in Houston, Texas and reaches out to facilitate several community efforts. Garrison has also been on the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. She is an active coach who piloted the 2008 U.S. Olympic women’s team. After putting on some weight later in life, she was a contestant on The Biggest Loser in 2014 to serve as an inspiration.
