Tony Oliva Biography

Tony Oliva spent his entire 15-year major league career with the Minnesota Twins and became one of the franchise's all-time greats. Oliva made an immediate impact, winninig the 1964 American League Rookie of the Year award and the league's batting title. That season also started a run where he made eight consecutive All-Star teams. In addition to Oliva's first batting title, he paced the AL in hitting in 1965 and 1971. Oliva helped the Twins reach the World Series in 1965 and won his only Gold Glove in 1966. He played for Minnesota until 1976, retiring with a .304 career average and 220 home runs. Oliva's number has been retired by the Twins and he is a member of the team's Hall of Fame. He also has a statue that stands at Target Field.
