About Todd McLellan
Todd McLellan played in the NHL with the New York Islanders but after just two years in professional hockey he decided to pursue coaching due to several shoulder injuries. He got his start as the head coach of the North Battleford North Stars in the Saskatchewan Junior League and went on to become the head coach and general manager of the Swift Current Broncos in the Western Hockey League where he earned both Executive of the Year in 1997 and Coach of the Year in 2000. He used that as a springboard in his coaching career and earned coaching gigs with the Minnesota Wild minor league affiliate Cleveland Lumberjacks in 2001 and Houston Areos in 2002. In 2005 he made his way back to the NHL as an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wins and helped the team to a Stanley Cup title in 2007-08. After that season he was named head coach of the San Jose Sharks and has since led them to six consecutive playoff appearances and an overall record of 271-130.
