Steve Wisniewski

While his last name may be hard to pronounce, Steve Wisniewski is better known as “The Wiz”. This former offensive linesman played thirteen seasons with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders and since he couldn’t get enough of them, returned after retirement from the NFL to serve as the team’s assistant offensive line coach. “The Wiz” was born in Rutland, Vermont and played college football at Penn State University, where he graduated in 1989 with a marketing degree. Throughout his time as a lion, Wisniewski was named All-American two consecutive years. He was then drafted in the second round of the 1989 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, only to immediately be traded to the Raiders. Over the course of his thirteen seasons in the NFL, he started 204 of the 206 games he played, a remarkable statistic. “The Wiz” also earned a Pro Bowl selection eight times, an All-Pro selection eight times, and was named to the NFL 1990’s AllDecade Team. As one of the few professional American athletes to spend the entirety of his career with one team, it is not a shocker that Wisniewski grew a love for the Raiders so strong that he came back to make a coaching debut in 2011.
