Steve Kragthorpe

Steve Kragthorpe is most commonly known as an assistant on the coaching staff for the Louisiana State University (LSU) Tigers. A former football player himself, Kragthorpe was recruited to play college football at Eastern New Mexico University, where he was the quarterback for the 1983 and ’84 season. Kragthorpe followed his head coach at LSU to West Texas State his third year, and after sitting out a year, continued to play for him during his junior and senior seasons. Kragthorpe graduated from West Texas State with a bachelor’s degree in Business, and went on to begin his coaching career, spending more than a decade coaching numerous college football teams. Finally, in 2003, Kragthorpe took his first head coaching position at the Univeristy of Tulsa, leading the team to win the Conference USA championship years later. Also obtaining the head coach position for the University of Louisville in 2007, that was the last time Kragthorpe saw a head coaching position. He was hired in 2011 as the new offensive coordinator at LSU but due to becoming victim to Parkinson’s disease, Kragthorpe had to respectfully step down. He now continues to fight through his disease and share his distinguished knowledge and coaching experiences with the LSU Tigers as an administrative assistant.
