About Shawne Merriman
Shawne Merriman was a former professional linebacker / defensive end for the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills of the NFL. Merriman was highly recruited for football coming out of high school, but he chose to stay in state and attend the University of Maryland. As a sophomore, Merriman suffered injuries, but he never missed a game. In his junior year, Merriman was named to the ACC All-Conference team as well as earning the Iron Terp award. The San Diego Chargers selected Merriman as the 12th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. During his time with the Chargers, Merriman was a 3x Pro Bowler, 3x All-Pro selection, NFL sacks leader, AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, PFWA Defensive Rookie of the Year and Sporting News Rookie of the Year. The Chargers placed Merriman on waivers on November 2, 2010. The Buffalo Bills signed Merriman the day after he was released from the Chargers and he spent his final two seasons with the team./p>
