About Shannon Szabados
Shannon Szabados is a Canadian hockey hero and has broken down several barriers in the hockey world during her career. As a junior goaltender she became the first female player to play in several leagues, including the Western Hockey League and Alberta Junior Hockey League. In 2013 she became the first female player to sign and play in the Southern Professional League. While playing amongst the men she has earned their respect and played collegiately at Grant MacEwan University on the men’s team. During her last two collegiate years she played at Northern Institute of Technology and broke a league record with five shutouts in route to an ACAC Championship. Internationally Szabodos has been the go to goaltender for the Canadian National Team for over a decade, leading them to two Gold Medals at the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Games. She ha also led Team Canada to three silver medals and a gold medal at the IIHF World Women’s Championships, three gold medals at the Air Canada Cup and five Women’s 4 Nations Cup titles.
