About Ron Gardenhire
Ron Gardenhire had a passion for the game of baseball growing up and after a lot of heart work he was drafted into the MLB by the New York Mets in 1979. Gardenhire moved around the infield throughout his career, playing second base, third base, and shortstop. Despite tremendous talent, Gardenhires career was plagued with injuries, limiting him to no more than 70 games in any of his 5 seasons. After his retirement, Gardenhire spent three seasons as a manger in the Minnesota Twins minor league system until 1991 when he was promotes to third base coach for the Twins. He held that role for 11 seasons, including the teams World Series victory season of 91. In 2002, Gardenhire was hired as manager of the Minnesota Twins, a position he held for the following 13 seasons. The aggressive and exciting manager led the team to a 1068-1039 record throughout his career and in 2010 was named the AL Manager of the Year.
