About Rick Pitino
Rick Pitino has made his career in coaching college basketball and is currently the head coach at St. John's. Prior to beginning his legendary career as a coach, Rick played basketball in college at UMASS. He landed his first coaching job in 1974 as an assistant and later got his first head coaching position in 1978. Since that time Pitino has become one of the most successful coaches in college basketball history. Rick holds the distinction of being the only coach in NCAA history to lead three different programs to a Final Four appearance and two different programs to the NCAA National Championship. His success in leadership as a coach has earned him numerous awards including the SEC Coach of the Year three times, the John Wooden Coach of the Year Award in 1987, and the NABC National Coach of the Year Award. Arguably one of Pitino's biggest accomplishments was being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a part of the 2013 class.
