About Ray Childress
While playing football for Texas A&M, Ray Childress was a standout star that was named an All-American twice and currently sits fifth all-time in career tackles and career sacks at the university. His prowess on the field in college earned him the 3rd overall selection in the 1985 NFL Draft where he went to play for the Houston Oilers. As a multi-dimensional player, Ray was effective against the pass as well as the run. He racked up 76.5 career sacks in 163 games, and shares the NFL record for fumble recoveries in a single game having recovered three against the Redskins in 1988. That kind of play earned him a spot on 5 Pro Bowl teams, as well as being a three time First-Team All-Pro in his career. In the later stages of his career, Ray began to give back and established the Childress Foundation along with his wife to enhance student success through promoting community service, and developing effective life skills.
