Mitch Williams

While he is known as a broadcaster today, Mitch Williams is better known as a former relief pitcher in Major League Baseball. Mitch began playing the game at a young age, and continued to play in high school where he became a standout star of his team. His production on the field and on the mound led to him being selected in the MLB Draft right out of high school. Williams made his major league debut just a year later in 1986 for the Rangers where he earned the nickname “Wild Thing” for his extravagant wind up and release and occasional wild pitch. In a career that spanned from 1986 to 1997, Mitch played as a part of six different teams in route to recording an earned run average of less than 4, striking out 660 batters, and capturing 192 saves with a career high of 43 saves in a single season. It was those numbers that aided Williams in being selected as an All-Star in 1990.
