About Mike Rizzo
Mike Rizzo was the general manager and president of baseball operations for the Washington Nationals. He was instrumental in turning the Nationals into a perennial playoff contender and World Series champions in 2019.
Rizzo originally joined the organization in 2007 as an assistant general manager. He became general manager two years later and added his role as president in 2013. The Nationals have won at least 83 games each season since Rizzo was named GM.
He began his career in baseball as a scout for the Chicago White Sox. Rizzo was also a scout for the Boston Red Sox before joining the Arizona Diamondbacks for their 1998 inaugural season. From 2000-06, he was the Diamondbacks' director of scouting. Rizzo played college baseball at Saint Xavier University and spent three seasons in the Anaheim Angels' minor league system.
