About Mike Haywood
Michael Haywood got his start in college football as a wide receiver and defensive back at the University of Notre Dame. Upon earning his undergraduate degree in 1988 he joined the University of Minnesota coaching staff as a graduate assistant and then headed to Army from 1989 to 19990 as the defensive backs and special teams assistant. From 1991 to 2004 he served as an assistant coach at Ohio, Ball State, Louisiana State, and the University of Texas before returning to his alma mater as the offensive coordinator and running backs coach in 2005. After three years at Notre Dame he accepted the head-coaching job at Miami of Ohio and helped turn the RedHawks program around in just two seasons. After a 1-11 record in 2009 he led his tam to a 9-4 season in 2010 with a Mid-American Conference Championship and an appearance in the GoDaddy.com Bowl.
