About Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe is an American safety for the Texas Longhorns. A native of Austin, Texas, he attended Westlake High School, where he played cornerback and wide receiver, recording 60 tackles, five interceptions, and 297 receiving yards with three touchdowns as a senior. Notably, he intercepted Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers twice in the 2020 Texas 6A state championship, earning Defensive MVP honors and helping Westlake secure back-to-back titles. Initially committed to Rice, Taaffe chose to walk on at Texas. After redshirting his freshman year, he played in 13 games as a redshirt freshman, earning a scholarship in December 2022. In 2023, he recorded 48 tackles and three interceptions, earning honorable mention All-Big 12. In 2024, as a junior, he started all 14 games, amassing 63 tackles, two interceptions, and second-team AP All-American honors.
