About Mark Prior
Mark Prior is a former right-handed pitcher for the Chicago Cubs.
Prior was among the most dominant pitchers in baseball when healthy. He pitched for the Cubs from 2002 to 2006 and totaled 757 strikeouts.
Prior was originally born and raised in San Diego, California, where his love for the sport of baseball developed. He attended Vanderbilt University, his father’s alma mater, for his freshman year of college, and then transferred to the University of South Carolina where he played college baseball for the Trojans. Graduating from USC with many notable awards, including the Dick Howser Trophy,
Obtaining structural damage to his right shoulder, Prior was diagnosed with a “loose shoulder” and even after surgery and rehab, never fully recovered. Prior attempted to return to the MLB in 2007 with the San Diego Padres only to tear his shoulder during rehab. Determined not to give up, he continued to sign minor league contracts with the Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Cincinnati Reds from 2010 to 2013.
Since 2018, Prior has been the pitching coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
