About Larry Nance
Larry Nance is a retired professional basketball forward who played in the NBA. Nance attended Clemson University where he played basketball from 1977-1981. The Phoenix Suns selected Nance as the 20th overall draft pick in the 1981 NBA Draft. Nance played for the Suns from 1981-88 and during his time in Phoenix he became the first winner of the NBA Slam Dunk contest in 1984 and he earned his nickname “The High-Ayatolla of Slamola.” Nance experienced his best scoring average year in 1986-87 where he averaged 22.5 points per game. Nance was involved in a trade with the Suns and Cleveland Cavilers in 1988. Nance played for the Cavaliers from 1988-1994 and he proved to be the missing piece that the Cavs needed. Nance is a 3x NBA All-Star, a NBA All-Defensive First Team, 2x NBA AllDefensive Second Team and an NBA Slam Dunk Contest Champion. The Cavs retired No. 22 after Nance retired.
