About Juan Gonzalez
Juan Gonzalez played 17 seasons in the major leagues and is best known for his time with the Texas Rangers. He began his professional baseball career at the age of 16 when he signed a free agent contract with the Rangers in 1986 out of Puerto Rico. He’d go on to play the first 11 seasons of his career in Arlington, and then finish the last six years of his career with the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Indians. During that span he earned three All-Star selections, two American League MVP Awards in 1996 and 1998, and six Silver Slugger Awards. In 1992 and 1993 he led the American League in homeruns in back-to-back years, and topped the major leagues with 157 RBI in 1998. Gonzalez retired in 2005 with a .295 career batting average and 434 career homeruns. During his career he was one of the top homerun and RBI men in the league, hitting 40 homeruns five times and finishing in the top five in RBI five times.
