About Joey Jones
Joey Jones played his college football at the University of Alabama and joined the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL after earning his degree in Business Administration in 1983. He’d go on to play one season in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons before beginning his coaching career as an assistant coach at Briarwood Christian School in 1989. In 1991 he landed the head coaching position at Dora High School and led his team to a 24-11 record in three seasons. In 1996 he headed to Mountain Brooke High School and led his team to the 1996 6A State Championship game in his first season. From 1996 to 2005 he led the Spartans to four region titles, made two semifinal appearances and won 101 games. In 2006 he landed the head coaching job at Birmingham-Southern and then headed to South Alabama in 2009 and led the Jaguars to 17 consecutive wins in his first two seasons. Jones guided South Alabama through their transition to FBS Football and went 52-50 in nine seasons. He is currently the special teams coordinator at Mississippi State.
