Joe Mullen played 16 seasons in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins from 1979 to 1997. Mullen grew up in New York City and served on the ice and maintenance staffs at Madison Square Garden as a kid. Eventually he took up the game of ice hockey and played in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey Association from 1971 to 1974, scoring 181 goals in his final two seasons before heading to Boston College on a hockey scholarship in 1975. During his time at Boston College he set school records with 110 goals and 212 points and became a two-time All-American in 1978 and 1979 in route to wining the Walter Brown Award in1978. In 1980 he joined the St. Louis Blues and would go on to score 502 goals and record 561 assists for a total of 1063 points in 1062 career NHL games. Mullen was the first American born player to score 500 goals and record 1000 points in NHL history. He also represented the USA on several occasions at the 1979 and 1999 World Championships. He is a member of both the United Sates Hockey Hall of Fame and Hockey Hall of Fame.
