About James Worthy
James Worthy is an NBA legend. Known as “Big Game James”, Worthy was a member of the 1982 North Carolina Tarheels team that captured the NCAA Championship. Upon earning Consensus First-Team All-American and NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors he was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1982 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. Over the next 12 seasons he led the Lakers to three NBA Championships while also earning seven NBA All-Star selections. By the time he retired in 1994 he had scored 16,320 points for a 17.6 average and become one of the most dominant players of any era. For his contributions to the game of basketball over the span of his career he was named to the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team and enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. Off the court Worthy is a dedicated philanthropist, supporting non-profit community organizations through the James Worthy Foundation.
