About James Borrego
James Borrego is the former head coach of the Charlotte Hornets and one of the most respected coaches in the NBA. Borrego got extensive experience in the league during two separate stints as an assistant under Greg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs. During his first tenure with the team, the Spurs won two NBA championships. Borrego also coached under fellow former Spurs assistants Monty Williams and Jacque Vaughn with the New Orleans Pelicans and Orlando Magic respectively. When Vaughn was fired in 2015, Borrego got a 30-game audition as head coach of the Magic. He originally began his coaching career in the college ranks at his alma mater, San Diego.
